LakeshoreLakeShore was created in June of 1969 by Patricia Wilhelm as a small group serving four families. In 1970, Fred Jennings became the director and it continued to grow over the years, now serving more than sixty families each summer. Following in his father's footsteps, Dan Jennings now serves as LakeShore Director, carrying forward the traditions of the last 41 years while bringing fresh ideas to meet the needs of today's children. We are a non-profit organization chartered in the State of Ohio.

Our Staff
Staff consists of teachers certified in Special Education, Elementary Education, Reading, Perceptual Motor Skills, Physical Education, etc.  College students majoring in Education and mature high school students

serve as teacher assistants and volunteers.

Mission

Our mission is to serve children with special learning needs and their families throughout the year. Through a happy, non-competitive relationship with other campers and a caring staff, each child has an opportunity to realize her/his potential. We offer a program for continued growth of the child’s overall development during the summer months with emphasis on working and playing together, reinforcing academics from your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), developing a sense of responsibility, and developing a positive self-concept -- all in a camp-like setting!

Funding
Our annual budget is funded by camp tuition, and personal, corporate and civic donations. In the past, we held an annual benefit Auction each summer, which was always a fun and profitable event. However, 2009 brought some changes and back by popular demand, we will continue with the following two annual events – the Fred Jennings Memorial 5K Run / 1 Mile Fun Run and the Dinner Dance Extravaganza. Also, an Endowment fund was begun in 2004 and we are also recipients of United Way donations.

Family Activities
Family Fun Club brings together summer friends and families throughout the year for activities such as a Fall Fun Fest, Potluck with Santa, ShamRock dance, bowling, swim parties, and the movies. We always welcome new ideas!

Family Support Group - Throughout the school year, we have a Family Support Group that meets to share resources and available community activities for parents and families, as well as have occasional guest speakers. This is a great way to find out about opportunities for your child, stay in touch with other parents, and discuss new resources for your family.
